Folksy Friday - Hedgehogs

Ok, so I know last week I promised an explosion of colour and excitement after the rather dark and Gothic magpie themed Folksy Friday, but I have had to change my mind! Firstly, I haven't had time to take the photos that I need to do that particular idea justice, but more importantly on Wednesday morning I saw my first live hedgehog... ever!

And on the same day, completely coincidentally, Kirsten from Quernus Crafts posted some pics on Facebook of her new creations... yes you've guessed it hedgehogs!

And both the real thing and these fellows are just too cute to ignore!
And so today's Folksy Friday is on the theme of... HEDGEHOGS!

The little fellows above are not yet available to buy on Folksy, but the items below most definitely are available to purchase - click on the photo to be taken directly to the sellers shop!

Folksy Friday - One for Sorrow...

I had originally planned to do today's Folksy Friday on the theme of Magpies on account of the fact that I am a collector and hoarder of all sorts of flotsam and jetsam, and a fan of bright and cheerful patterns - I can't resist a gorgeous print any more than the magpie can resist that hint of shine! Somehow though, in the process of planning this post, the selections became based on the famous rhyme instead of the birds themselves!

One for sorrow, two for joy...
Three for a girl, and four for a boy...
Five for silver, six for gold...
And seven for a secret never to be told...

A true magpies nest of eclectic items from various Folksy Sellers! Just click on the picture to be taken directly to that seller's shop.

So as you can see, this week I have seriously limited my colour palette to match the distinctive colours of the magpie and have ended up with quite a dark and Gothic selection.
But I have an interesting idea to brighten things up - just you wait till next week...!

Folksy Friday - Commuting

This weeks Folksy Friday is on the theme of 'Commuting' as since I have started my new job I have had to catch the train to work every morning as the other half has the car! Unfortunately, these journeys are not very comfortable or very inspiring, but they are a necessity of modern life!

I am lucky that my journey only takes half an hour, (and I only have to do it three days a week!) but I know that many others have to suffer through much longer journeys! I have total empathy for all of you who do a long commute as yesterday I had to catch a (very early!) train from Sheffield down to London to go on an induction day for my new job!

The first three items represent modern day travel as I experienced it yesterday...

And the second set of three items represent commuting in a less hectic time!

As always, if you want to find out more about any of the items,
just click on the picture to be taken directly to the seller's shop.

Right, then, time for me to go!
Places to go (work)
People to see (well actually I'm the only one in today!) and
Trains to catch (and it leaves soon!)

Wishing everyone a safe, happy and delay free commute this morning!

National Wool Week

Back in January 2010, HRH The Prince of Wales announced a cross-industry initiative callled The Campaign for Wool which has led to the formation of a National Wool Week! This runs from 11th-15th October (yes that's tomorrow!) and I have been lucky enough to have been asked to write an article for the Folksy Blog!

You can read the article in full at:

Folksy will be joining in the celebrations and will be helping to promote National Wool Week by showcasing all things woolly! Look out for knitting, crochet, felting and a selection of woolly themed Featured Sellers!

Unfortunately, due to a technical gremlin, some of the pictures that I had picked to illustrate my article were unable to be used, and so I thought I would post them here so that some more of the woolly sellers of the world get their chance to shine!

You can see examples of:
Wool Roving, Wool Roving combined with Silk, Dyed Woolen Yarn,
Woven Wool, Knitted Wool, Crocheted Wool,
Wet Felting, Needle Felting, and Knitted Wool that has been 'Fulled' (that's deliberately shrunk to you and me!)

If you would like to know more about each item, just click directly on the picture and you should be taken to their Folksy shop!

Folksy Friday - Pick of the Pops

Over the last week or so, the other half has been acting as my random CD generator!
For every day that I have been in the house by myself, he has chosen a CD from our extensive and varied collection that he knows I like but probably wouldn't think to choose. This has resulted in a very eclectic mix of tunes!

I thought it would be great fun to share the albums that I have been listening to with you, but also to see whether I could find an item on Folksy that somehow ties in to the album title (you know how I love a Folksy Friday Challenge!)

The albums  are:
Left to Right
TOP: Placebo by Placebo, Live Rust by Neil Young, The Sophtware Slump by Granddaddy,
MIDDLE: Station to Station by David Bowie, Mirrored by Battles
BOTTOM: Fisherman's Woman by Emiliana Torrini

I hope you like my selections!
If you would like to know more about any of the featured items, click on the picture and you will be taken directly to that sellers shop.
